The Zodiac is divided into twelve parts, each one with a designated sign (probably of Babylonian origin). Water signs are usually in touch with their heart and soul. They’re dreamy, sweet, empathetic, and caring. Most water signs become poets, doctors, filmmakers, therapists, or anything that allows them to get to the deeper part of the downs in life.
As we enter full-on Pisces season (hi, fish!), let’s break down the basics of these three essentially aquatic signs.
Cancer
Cancer Dates: June 21 to July 22
Origin and Meaning in Astrology: The symbol for the Cancer sign is the crab. Cancer is a cardinal sign, meaning it marks the start of a season the same way as Aries marks the beginning of spring. In ancient times, the constellation of Cancer was positioned at the same place as the most northerly location of the sun, representing the summer solstice.
Cancer Celebrities: Ariana Grande, Post Malone, Robin Williams, and Kevin Hart.
Scorpio
Scorpio Dates: October 23 to November 21
Origin and Meaning in Astrology: The symbol for the Scorpio is the scorpion. Scorpio is a fixed sign that comes after the autumn has begun in Libra. The origin story involves a point of Libra’s fallen sun and the darkness that has come (the end of spring). This is why we see it as a sign of death. As opposed to Taurus, where everything blossoms in the spring, in Scorpio everything dies, falls asleep, and one cycle ends to usher in the cold winter.
Scorpio Celebrities: Julia Roberts, Ryan Reynolds, Anne Hathaway, and Gabrielle Union.
Pisces
Pisces Dates: February 19 to March 20
Origin and Meaning in Astrology: The symbol for the Pisces is the fish. Pisces is a sign of mutable quality, meaning the Sun remains as winter comes to an end, and spring is about to begin. This represents a zone of intertwined seasons and the end of life and its beginning. We see snow and low temperatures, as well as nature blooming all around us. This is why Pisces is a sign of the greatest changes among all mutable signs.
Pisces Celebrities: Rihanna, Smokey Robinson, Drew Barrymore, and Erykah Badu.
