Why Dark Souls 1 May Be an Overhyped Game

Before I start whining about what I do not like about Dark Souls one, let’s talk about what I do like.

One, it was the second Soul’s game and the most popular by far. That’s just more of a fact than an opinion. Two, the first half of the game is an amazing experience, and I understood what the talk was about. It was difficult, but that’s just classic Souls combat, so of course I liked it. Areas such as Anor Londo, Sen’s Fortress, and The Abyss are beautiful even for the old and blocky PlayStation 3 era graphics.

In comparison, I liked how the clothes you chose mattered more. Since you become heavy and slow if you’re over a certain weight limit. Making you feel more like a knight, even though I wanted a light load and all I had on was a night gown, a helmet, boots, and a shank.

The first half of the game was a fun challenge where I felt like I was truly adventuring and felt like this was a game. The second half felt like a checklist. The bearers of the loudsouls were hyped up in the game itself to be the top dawgs of the universe, who would be a great challenge to get past before you fight Lord Gwny, holder of the first flame. Just for three of them to be bums!

It is harder to actually reach these bosses than it is to fight them. I understand that the second half of the game was rushed due to the pressure of release day coming up. I would still recommend that people play this game due to the first half alone, and just for the playthrough in general. This does not remove the fact that this game has a great start, great end, but a weak and soggy middle.
