When Kevin Hart randomly appears on their flight, you gotta consider it.
spoilers below, not that you want to or should watch it
Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw is the whopping ninth movie in the Fast and Furious universe, one that arguably hasn’t had a proper film since the second installment. While there were glimmers of hope with the fun albeit ridiculous Fast Five, it has been steep downhill from there, hitting rock bottom with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s 2018 spinoff.
The first and most glaring problem with Hobbs and Shaw is that it makes absolutely no sense. The main villain has super powers because… he does, just go with it. One of the main characters injects herself with a world-ending virus a la Mission Impossible II and she’ll be contagious in 18 hours, but don’t worry we have time to have multiple fights and be taken hostage and then have some more fights. And we still have plenty of time so we can get on trans-continental flight where Kevin Hart is gonna randomly appear and then we can arrive in Samoa spend the night at Dwayne Johnson’s house and spend a whole day and a half preparing for a fight with the superpower guy and his army. Oh and did I mention we don’t have any guns and plan to fight them with spears and the power of familia? It’s gonna work out great, we just have to tie 4 cars to a helicopter right after it goes from the dead of night to early afternoon in a couple minutes. Easy peasy.
Absolute ridiculousness isn’t a foreign language in the Fast franchise. I’d honestly say no logic has been present since Gal Gadot showed up. But Hobbs and Shaw isn’t even a good movie within Fast logic because it lacks the one thing that makes any of them interesting at all: cars. Yes, Shaw has a couple McLarens (a 720S and two P1s, to be exact, though the P1s were only seen for a second sitting in a garage), but most of the action is hand to hand fighting and it’s the only Fast movie that doesn’t feature a racing scene. So what’s the point? It’s not the only Fast movie that had me asking that, but it’s the only one where I really didn’t have an answer.
