The senior creative writers hosted their final showcase on April 17th. If you were there, thank you, and if you weren’t, you missed out.
For a while now, senior creative writers have spent time coming up with a concept for a final showcase that would get people’s attention. In the end, the concept and vision we’ve wanted finally came to life. From Joc’s incredible performance with musicians to King Kevin being front and center of us all, those who wanted a spotlight got what they wanted, and those who didn’t were still active participants in the showcase.
The class of 2024 has a very small number of creative writers (12 students), but the imaginations are endless.

Interview skit from the senior showcase featuring Kai Delguidice, Ava Dean, and Ayva-Reneé Morales.
Let’s start with our opening musicians, who absolutely killed it on stage. Though they had no time to rehearse ahead of time, they knew exactly what they wanted to do and knew just how to do it. With their 30 minute performance, they welcomed the audience in and got the performers hype before it was time to go.
We then transitioned to our opening poem, which was accompanied by a mariachi. This poem truly captivated the audience, and got many people to applaud.
From there, an incredible team of prop helpers worked on getting the stage ready to go for skit 1: King Kevin. A hilarious way to begin the show, full of many actors and some creative writers. Oh, did I mention that the skits were written by us?
Skit 2 was about a bandit and a sheriff who … have secret chemistry? Perhaps, it was an enemy to lovers trope, but it stood out with classic country music in the background of the set.
Our “commercial break” after these two was actually a trailer for a film made by a creative writer. Reactions were scattered throughout the showing, as many people in the audience realized that they were featured in the beautiful film.
For the interlude, we had a jazz performance, which was upbeat and made sure the audience sits back and relaxes.
Our final skit was a news skit, which included a wonderful creative writing teacher and many jokes that were read for the first time on stage in front of the audience.
Finally, our closing act consisted of a creative writing senior and a junior vocalist performing an MCR song. An amazing combination that created excitement in the air.
One student that performed stated, “it was fun, I really enjoyed the show.”
Another student stated, “the audience seemed to have a good time. There were a lot of people who laughed, which is usually good news.”
When the show was coming to an end, our incredible department head and assistant department head said a couple words to us, accompanied by potted flowers, which got the tears for a few students (okay, maybe just me).
Anyways, thank you all for coming and supporting us. We all appreciate the time you spent watching our ideas be performed on stage.
