Doodle Wall Shutdown

With the Doodle wall being recently reopened the only question left is: what happened?

The Inception of the Doodle Wall

The Doodle wall located near the end of the hall on the 3rd was a part of the visual arts class of 2026 mural project. Alongside with the gorgeous mural adjacent from the doodle wall that runs down the stair it was meant to be something for all the conservatories. The mural class that hand painted the mural felt like there was nothing in the halls that all students could use as a collaborative space and wanted to make one. With only 4 simple rules:

  1. Doodles must be school appropriate
  2. No words, just doodles
  3. Only doodle on the white space
  4. If the following rules were not followed then no more doodle wall

 What Happened?

Near the end of January a curious sign appeared on the doodle wall stating that due to an infraction on rule one (keep doodles school appropriate) that the Doodle Wall would be temporarily shut down till February 2nd. After conversing with both students and teachers I found out that there was an offensive message and phalluses found on the doodle wall.

Student Response

I interview a group of students that had worked on the doodle wall and the mural and there was a sentiment of disrespect as well as disappointment, as they felt that these rules were very simple to follow and it hurt to see something meant to be for everyone be taken away because of the actions of a handful of students.

Teacher Response

When I talked with Mr. Lin and he told me that he wanted the Doodle Wall to be a place where students could express themselves and be as weird or funny as they wanted. When the offending doodle was found him and Mr. Corona decided that the best course of action would be to put a pause on the wall to set the example that this is not the sport of the doodle wall and that they wouldn’t tolerate the rules being broken.
