ChiArt’s literary magazine Levitate is preparing for it’s ninth issue release this May.

The literary magazine is annually run by juniors of the creative writing conservatory. Together, they work as editors of different genres include poetry, fiction, and nonfiction and read submission sent from all over the country. From November to February, they received nearly 500 submissions.

The editors also decide what dossier theme is going to inspire a section of the magazine. This issue’s theme is censorship.

“This is a very prevalent and important theme right now,” says Avery Ferin, managing Editor of the magazine and creative writing conservatory teacher.

Yamlie Munoz, a senior in the creative writing conservatory says she’s grateful to share her expertise with the junior class as she works as an assistant managing editor this year.

“It’s been really great seeing the different styles of organization from different instructors and students,” Yamlie Munoz says. “Everyone is very motivated and you can tell everyone actually cares about this magazine down to the what the them is and we fought very hard to keep our theme.”

The Levitate literary magazines issue 9 release is on Tuesday, May 13th at 6pm at the honeycomb network, located at 2659 W. Division Street.
